Easter in Salzburg

Spring mood, art and tradition

Whoever spends Easter in Salzburg will be delighted by a city in the spring awakening. You can see spring flowers come to light everywhere in the city, the gardeners of Mirabell Palace work diligently on the flower beds, and in the city restaurants and cafés have placed their tables and chairs outside. The Easter period also brings old traditions, festivities and art to Salzburg.

Salzburg Easter Festival

We have already reported on our blog from this year’s Easter Festivals from 7 to 18 April 2017. The 50th anniversary of the Easter Festival is celebrated with a new production of Richard Wagner’s “Walküre” from the first year of the Easter Festival (1969). Surely a performance that you can look forward to. Enjoy many more operas and concerts in this beautiful city that is overflowing with

Customs and tradition

Easter customs and traditional craftsmanship and local art can be experienced in the Open air museum Großgmain. Old houses and handicraft businesses from the last centuries were moved into the generous area. Here one can experience history and tradition first-hand. Handicraft demonstrations show how work was done in former centuries. For children, there is an Easter egg search on Easter Sunday.

From our two Salzburg hotels IMLAUER Hotel Pitter Salzburg and Hotel IMLAUER & Bräu you can reach the museum south of Salzburg by car in about 25 minutes and by bus number 180 (bus stop in front of the shopping mall Kiesel) in about 35 minutes. It is open from Tuesday to Sunday (except on Easter Monday!) and in the summer from 9 am to 6 pm.
Further information about the open-air museum can be found HERE.

Traditional Easter dishes in the Braurestaurant IMLAUER

The best tip we have reserved until the end. In our Braurestaurant IMLAUER you can find from 8 to 17 April traditional Easter dishes with lamb, rabbit and Easter ham on the menu. Enjoy the feast days with a traditional Easter dish and let yourself be spoiled by our cuisine.
