Mozart and the city of Salzburg

Mozart is omnipresent in Salzburg and has not only enriched this city with his beautiful music but has also marked it by his life. Those who visit Salzburg have often Mozart as their genuine reason and follow his tracks around the city or enjoy Mozart’s music in concerts.

Mozart‘s Birthplace

The most popular sight in Salzburg is of course Mozart’s birthplace. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born here in 1756 and lived with his parents and his sister until 1773 on the 4th floor of this house. In 1880, a museum had been established here, and since then it is dedicated to Mozart’s life and music. Numerous original artefacts like portraits and the child’s violin make this museum an interesting meeting place with the musician’s life and work.

Mozart’s birthplace is located in the now famous Getreidegasse and can be reached from our hotels, the IMLAUER Hotel Pitter Salzburg and the hotel IMLAUER & Bräu, on foot in about 15 minutes. Those, who don’t wish to walk can take one of the public busses running in front of the hotels and get out at the national bridge, where a few steps will take them to Mozart’s birthplace. The museum is opened daily form 9.00 am to 5.30 pm. The entrance fee is € 11,00 per adult. With the Salzburg Card you have a one-time free entrance.

Mozart‘s Residence

Almost equally famous as Mozart’s Birthplace is the residence on  Markart square. The family moved in in 1773 and father Leopold lived here until his death in 1787. Today the residence is a museum which shows the life of the family. The house was partly destroyed in the second world war and later rebuilt according to old plans.

The residence is located near the beautiful gardens of Mirabell Palace and can be reached on foot from our hotels in 8-10 minutes. The museum is opened daily form 9.00 am to 5.30 pm. The entrance fee is € 11,00 per adult. With the Salzburg Card you have a one-time free entrance. There is also a combination ticket for the birthplace and the residence for € 18,00 per adult.
