Rupertikirtag festival in Salzburg

Every year we are sweetened by the September and the farewell to the summer with the “Rupertikirtag” festival. This year too, the popular Volksfest will again attract many locals and guests to the old town of Salzburg. From 20 to 24 September 2017, you can enjoy the colorful activities in the city.

The festival

The Rupertikertag is a fixed highlight in the yearly calendar of our city and attracts many visitors with its numerous attrsactions and market stands. There is not only a lot to look at, but amusement is provided as well: carousel, ring games, fireworks and many other attractions. The Salzburg comic figure “Hanswurst” cannot be missed. For hearty delicacies and freshly tapped beer is catered for too.

Traditional customs

Customs and traditions are important on the Rupertikertag and many do not miss to appear in traditional costumes. Shows with traditional customs, folk music and traditional handicraft can be admired and enjoyed here. Do not miss the big dress show of traditional costumes on Thursday evening with the election of the most beautiful traditional dressed boy and girl.

St. Rupert

The festival is devoted to St. Rupert. He is the land patron of Salzburg and he is dedicated to the cathedral of Salzburg as well. The commemoration day is on September 24, in memory of the 24th of September, of the year 744, when Bishop Virgil had the bones of the saint transferred to the inauguration of the then Salzburg Cathedral.

From our two Salzburg hotels IMLAUER Hotel Pitter Salzburg and Hotel IMLAUER & Bräu you can easily reach the Old Town by foot in 15 minutes along the Salzach River or through the gardens of Mirabell Palace. Alternatively, you can take one of the public buses in front of the hotel and get thus to the old town.
We wish you all a nice folk festival!
The entire program can be found on the homepage of the Rupertikirtag (available only in German).
