A long history

In the 18th century, there was a farmers’ market on the banks of the Vienna River, which now flows underground in most areas. When the Vienna Valley was restructured this should be turned into a luxurious avenue. The plans were however not realized and the area has since been occupied by the famous Naschmarkt. The Naschmarkt is now not only one of Vienna’s most popular markets but also one of the greatest sights in the city. Then and now people come here to get their fresh fruits, vegetables, fish and meat.


Eating and drinking at the Naschmarkt

Shopping at the Naschmarkt is a special experience for many reasons. Here, between fruit stands and snack sellers, is where you will experience that unique mixture of charming Viennese humour and oriental flair. All nations meet at the Naschmarkt to trade goods from around the world.

As soon as you enter the Naschmarkt you will smell many fantastic aromas. And when you walk around the market it quickly becomes clear: there is no limit to the culinary preferences at the Naschmarkt in Vienna. Directions to the Naschmarkt

From our two Viennese Hotels IMLAUER Vienna and Nestroy Vienna you can easily reach the Naschmarkt by subway. Take the underground line U1 at “Nestroyplatz” and get on in the direction of “Reumannplatz” and go 3 stops to “Karlsplatz”. There you take the exit to the curch “Karlskirche” and the park and reach the Naschmarkt in 5 walking minutes.
If you want to visit the flea market before (Attention: only on Saturdays!), you have to go to the other end of the Naschmarkt. In this case, change to the underground line U4 at “Karlsplatz” and continue in the direction of “Hütteldorf” until you reach the next stop “Kettenbrückengasse”. This stop brings you directly to the Naschmarkt and the flea market.
