The Museum on Mozartplatz (Square of Mozart)

The Salzburg Museum in the New Residence tells the history of the city in an informative but entertaining way. It does this using valuable pieces of art and aesthetic presentation and multimedia installation. The museum on the square of Mozart was awarded the Austrian and European culture prize for this new concept.

The exhibitions at the Salzburg Museum are split into three topics. ‘The Myth Salzburg’ concentrates on the development of Salzburg in history, art and culture since the modern age. The permanent exhibition ‘Salzburg up close’ tells visitors interesting facts about the life, work and activities of interesting Salzburg men and women from the sectors of art, architecture, science, literature, music, photography and working lives. Some treasures from the archaeology and medieval collections such as the Celtic beak flagon, the helmet from Pass Lueg or the Gothic winged altar of the master of ‘Virgo inter Virgines’ are presented in the hall of mirrors on the 2nd floor under the heading ‘Treasures of archaeology and medieval times’
