You\u2019ll need to look carefully to spot these two faces. However, in autumn and winter, when there is less rose foliage, they are easy to see. <\/p>\n
How did these faces end up in the wall?
There are several theories about this.
One says that they are the heads of statues that used to be placed on the roof of the castle. It is possible that the statues probably fell victim to the great town fire of 1818, and the heads were then used in the walls close to the castle, so that at least part of the statues were reused. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

Countless visitors succumb to the charms of this special garden every year \u2013 from Pegasus Fountain<\/strong> to the Gnome Garden<\/strong>; from the Orangerie<\/strong> to the Theatre Garden<\/strong>. Also the locals love their gardens. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>The stony street, a tank and the house of pleasure<\/h1>\n<\/div>Our next insider tip involves a walk to the historic Steingasse <\/strong>(\u201cStony Street\u201d), one of the oldest streets in the old town<\/strong>. With its medieval charm, the narrow alley is a tip in itself.
It\u2019s also good to know that Joseph Mohr, the composer of the famous Christmas carol \u201cSilent Night! Holy Night!\u201d, is said to have lived at Steingasse 31. <\/p>\nBut what we want to show you is a piece of exciting contemporary history<\/strong>. Go along to the cultural film centre \u201cDas Kino\u201d. Right at the corner of the cinema, where Steingasse narrows, you\u2019ll see a broken section of wall. It is precisely at this location that American soldiers got stuck with their tank, on the final day of the Second World War. The soldiers eventually had to be cut free from their predicament. <\/p>\nSome whisper that the soldiers hoped to visit the traditional house of pleasure, the \u201cMaison de Plaisir\u201d, in Steingasse. This stupa is said to be located on a \u201cpower spot\u201d, and was inaugurated by Lama Sherab Gyaltsen Rinpoche \u2013 a Nepalese man considered to be one of Nepal\u2019s most important meditation masters. <\/p>\nBut it\u2019s not just the stupa that makes a walk up the M\u00f6nchsberg worthwhile.
Because if you walk the few meters up to the Richterh\u00f6he, you will be greeted by a breathtaking panorama<\/strong>. to the south, the legendary, mystical Untersberg mountain<\/strong>. <\/p>\nA special place to meditate, or simply to enjoy the view.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>CURIOSITY IN THE GETREIDEGASSE:<\/p>\n

There is also something curious hidden in a passageway in Getreidegasse, the so-called \u201cSchatz-Durchhaus\u201d<\/strong>.
If you stop in the middle of this passageway and look up, you will see a dried-up shark and a whale rib<\/strong>.<\/p>\nWhat have they lost there?
In the 18th century, the merchant and seafaring Mayr family<\/strong>, who did business with countries in the eastern Mediterranean, came up with the idea of drawing people\u2019s attention to their diverse and exotic goods<\/strong>.
