THE PLACE TO ENJOY

THROUGH THE SALZKAMMERGUT TO PICHLARN CASTLE

If you’re driving from Salzburg to the IMLAUER Hotel Schloss Pichlarn, you can take one of Austria’s most beautiful routes: the Austrian Romantic Road. Stunning landscapes, magnificent views, and world-famous sights and attractions await you.

Join us on the Austrian Romantic Road, which takes you from Salzburg to Aigen in the Styrian Ennstal Valley in about 1 hour and 50 minutes, where you can enjoy a wonderful vacation at our beautiful 5-star resort, the IMLAUER Hotel Schloss Pichlarn.

Austria’s lake paradise

The route starts from Salzburg on the B 158, past the Gaisberg and the Salzburgring to Lake Fuschl. It offers a wonderful gateway to the Salzkammergut with its crystal-clear lakes, wild and romantic mountain panoramas and lush colors. The road runs parallel to the long side of the lake for approx. 4 km.

If you prefer to take the highway (A1) for the first stretch, you can drive to Mondsee and change to the country road (B 154) there. Continue along the Mondsee in the direction of Wolfgangsee, where you meet the B 158 again.

The picturesque towns of St. Gilgen, St. Wolfgang and Strobl on Lake Wolfgangsee are perfect for a short break. If you have the time and inclination, climb the 1,793 m high Schafberg with the Schafberg cable car and enjoy the breathtaking view over Lake Wolfgangsee and the Salzkammergut.

Imperial and Cultural Capital

You’ll travel the entire length of Lake Wolfgang, 10.3 km, part of which runs right along the lake. After another 11.5 km, you’ll reach Bad Ischl.

This beautiful town is definitely worth a visit. Here, you can soak up the imperial atmosphere of days gone by and tour the Imperial Villa and the Marmorschlössl.

World-Famous Attractions

From Bad Ischl, continue south on the B 145, past the Predigtstuhl and the Ewige Wand. After Bad Goisern, you can switch to the B 166 to take a detour to Hallstatt and Lake Hallstatt.

In addition to the picturesque historic town, a salt mine, a boat tour on Lake Hallstatt, and the Hallstatt Skywalk offer unforgettable views.

The official Romantic Road ends in Hallstatt. However, continuing on the B 145 is no less romantic and well worth seeing.

The Styrian Salzkammergut

As you continue on the B 145, you will now reach the border with Styria and soon come to Bad Aussee. Here you can take a detour to beautiful Altaussee and Lake Altaussee, or to Lake Grundlsee and Lake Toplitz.

If you continue on the B 145 to Bad Mitterndorf and past the Tauplitz, you will have your first magnificent views of the north side of the majestic Grimming, Europe’s largest stand-alone mountain block. Incidentally, the Tauplitz is a wonderful skiing and hiking area that you can reach from our hotel in 15 minutes.

When you pass the Grimming, you should definitely take a look up to the left. Up there you will discover the small but enchanting village of Pürgg, which you should definitely visit during your stay at Schloss Pichlarn.

It’s just a few minutes’ drive from here to Aigen and our IMLAUER Hotel Schloss Pichlarn. Take a seat in our new winter garden, which offers a unique view of the Grimming, and reflect on your wonderful journey.

We wish you a pleasant drive and a relaxing stay at the IMLAUER Hotel Schloss Pichlarn!
