GOLF FUN WITH A TRADITIONAL TWIST

When Schloss Pichlarn opened as a 5-star hotel in 1972, that was also the year the new Schloss Pichlarn Golf & Country Club was founded. As was customary at the time, the new golf course was designed as a 9-hole course.

Even back then, the magnificent landscape surrounding the golf course and its interesting layout were the most striking features of the new facility.

The course was the second to be built in Styria and is thus one of Austria’s most historic golf courses. In the beginning, the course was used mainly by hotel guests.

Expansion in 1985

In keeping with the changing times, a decision was made in the 1980s to expand the golf course into an 18-hole facility. In 1985, the expansion and redesign were celebrated with a grand opening ceremony.

Distinguished guests were invited, including former German Federal President Walter Scheel. An avid golfer himself, Scheel opened the new course by hitting a golden golf ball, as reported by “Der Ennstaler.”

A Sports Icon Visits Schloss Pichlarn

Bernhard Langer, the first German to win the U.S. Masters and former No. 1 in the world golf rankings, was also invited to the opening. At the Schloss Pichlarn golf course, he set a course record of 65 strokes that remained unbroken for 25 years.

Bernhard Langer’s presence at Schloss Pichlarn and his course record made the Schloss Pichlarn Golf & Country Club famous far beyond the country’s borders.
