THE PLACE TO FEEL ROMANCE
ROMANTIC IN SALZBURG
The enchanting old town of Salzburg and the high castle are the perfect backdrop for a romantic break. Castles, parks and gardens, open countryside with beautiful views, hidden alleyways and much more await lovers for a romantic time for two.
We’ll show you where it’s particularly romantic in Salzburg at any time of year. Here are our top 5 for a magical time in Salzburg.
Enchanting for two
Our first favorite place for lovers is the Leopoldskroner Weiher. As part of a large castle and park complex, it offers plenty of space for a stroll. Wonderful views of Hohensalzburg Fortress, Leopoldskron Castle and the park make the hearts of all lovers beat faster.
The castle and park date back to the middle of the 18th century. They were built as a summer residence for the archbishop of the time. His heart is buried in the palace’s beautiful chapel, while the rest of his body was interred in Salzburg Cathedral.
A token of love
Our romantic spot no. 2 actually contains two places that go together wonderfully and will make your sweetheart melt away. Visit the gardens of Mirabell Palace. It is not for nothing that this place is one of the most beautiful sights in Salzburg. Archbishop Wolf Dietrich had the castle built in the early 17th century for his mistress Salome Alt. Today, couples from all over the world come here to get married in the castle’s beautiful ceremonial hall. The magnificent garden with a view of the old town and Hohensalzburg Fortress will delight you.
Then it’s just a few minutes’ walk to the Salzach and the Marko Feingold footbridge (formerly Makartsteg). Lovers from all over the world have been hanging love locks on the bridge here for over ten years, immortalizing their love in this wonderful place. Surprise your loved one with an engraved love lock that you can hang on the bridge together.
Dreamy with a view
A visit to the fortress is a must during a stay in Salzburg. But what’s the best way to get there? The most romantic way to do this is in a roundabout way. A walk on the long Mönchsberg leads you along narrow romantic paths, partly through dense forest and with secluded benches for a little break.
Start at the Müllner church and follow the asphalt road. Soon a smaller dirt road branches off to the right, which you should definitely take. Allow plenty of time and enjoy the wonderful views of the Salzach, the city and the surrounding mountains such as the Kapuzinerberg, the Gaisberg or the more distant Maria Plain and the Untersberg.
Picnic for lovers
Tip no. 4 is a classic: a picnic for two. We chose the beautiful and extensive park around Hellbrunn Palace for this. A magnificent historic garden, a sculpture park and extensive paths through meadows and woods offer plenty of space to enjoy time together.
If you feel like it, you can “climb” the path to the Monatsschlössl and enjoy a wonderful view. Or you can visit the famous trick fountains at Hellbrunn Palace. Amazing effects and hidden mechanisms will amaze you.
Romantic with horses
Tip no. 5 lets you experience Salzburg in a very relaxed and romantic way: a ride through the city in a horse-drawn carriage. In the so-called “Fiaker” you can snuggle up comfortably while being driven through Salzburg. The old town as a backdrop, the horse-drawn carriage as a fairytale vehicle and your loved one very close to you.
At the end, a romantic dinner in the
IMLAUER Sky
is an option. On warm summer days, you can enjoy a fantastic view of Hohensalzburg Fortress from the roof terrace. The sunset comes as an encore. It’s guaranteed to crackle here.
